Human Rights Report: Article 112 (Lèse-Majesté) Situation in Thailand (H1 2026)

September 19, 2026

In the first half of 2026, Thailand’s judicial crackdown under Section 112 shifted toward processing backlogged cases, handing down severe multi-year sentences—including up to 15 years for online posts—while systematically denying bail and excluding lèse-majesté charges from parliamentary amnesty proposals. Simultaneously, legal actions expanded beyond activists to target former opposition lawmakers who advocated for legislative reform. To counter this sustained deterrence, 112WATCH is mobilizing an international advocacy campaign across North America and Europe to leverage the upcoming 4th UN Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in Geneva for diplomatic accountability and political amnesty.
