112WATCH Incident Report: Psychiatric Patient Assaulted by Vigilante Group and Targeted with Lèse-Majesté Complaint
112WATCH urges state authorities to halt the procedural irregularities surrounding Section 112 enforcement and immediately hold these vigilante perpetrators accountable under the law.

BANGKOK, July 23, 2026 — 112WATCH has documented a deeply concerning case involving vigilante violence and the abuse of Thailand’s lèse-majesté law (Section 112 of the Criminal Code). On the evening of July 22, 2026, a 42-year-old psychiatric patient known as Pipat (pseudonym)—who serves as the sole caregiver for his mother suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and has a documented medical history of psychiatric treatment dating back to 2007—was violently targeted in his Don Mueang residence. After a royalist vigilante group calling itself "Kong Ruea Narok" (Hell Fleet) issued public online threats promising to hunt him down within 24 hours over a Facebook Reel concerning King Rama X, dozens of its members raided his home, dragged him outside, and subjected him to severe physical assault. Video evidence depicts perpetrators kicking, stomping, face-slapping, and kneeing Pipat in the abdomen, resulting in severe bodily trauma and damaged personal property.
Following the assault, the group illegally detained Pipat, forced him into a pickup truck, and delivered him to Tao Poon Police Station while remaining stationed around the perimeter. Investigation revealed that an individual named Naruphol Noomongkot had filed a Section 112 complaint against Pipat the previous day, though police had issued neither a summons nor an arrest warrant at the time he was brought in. During attorney intervention, an investigating officer seized Pipat's two mobile phones without a court warrant, citing the vulnerable suspect's "consent." Pipat was subsequently transferred to Don Mueang Police Station without formal Section 112 charges, where he filed an official assault complaint against his attackers. By the morning of July 23, Pipat required emergency hospital admission due to acute chest tightness, head pain, and widespread bruising.
This incident marks a chilling repetition of history, echoing the wave of mob violence that erupted in the wake of King Bhumibol’s death in 2016, when ultra-royalist vigilantes similarly hunted down perceived critics, assaulted them, and forced them to prostrate before portraits of the late monarch. Such lawless actions demonstrate how history is repeating itself through the unchecked rise of non-state actors operating with impunity under the banner of royal devotion. Ultimately, these extrajudicial attacks do nothing to protect the crown; instead, this violence and lawlessness further tarnish the reverence and reputation of the monarchy itself. 112WATCH urges state authorities to halt the procedural irregularities surrounding Section 112 enforcement and immediately hold these vigilante perpetrators accountable under the law.
