The party’s appointment of Pisan Manawapat, a career diplomat who defended the military regime installed after the 2014 coup, is a stain on its reformist image. The People's Party has been known for its pro-reform platform, hence, endorsing someone like Pisan will tarnish its reputation especially during the final days of the election campaign.
"Pisan represents the “elite royalist” archetype: someone who uses their intellect to justify the subversion of democracy. He lied to the international community about political prisoners while his fellow citizens were being jailed, and he suppressed minority identities in the name of a rigid, state-mandated nationalism."
