Pavin Chachavalpongpun, founder of 112WATCH, underwent his advocacy trip from 21st July to 6th August, 2024. He focused on the United States (San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle) and Canada (Vancouver). One of the key activities was strengthening Thai communities in the chosen cities and ensuring their participation in political campaigns. This task was important as part of building up the strength of Thai diasporas to increase voices over Thai politics at home.
It must be emphasized that the meetings in the two new locations (Portland and Seattle) were exciting. This was the first time Pavin brought advocacy to these cities and there was a keen interest on the part of Thais living there in participating the event. Future events are promising.
A large turnout in Vancouver
The most successful event was in Vancouver. Pavin’s talk attracted almost a hundred people consisting mostly of young residents of Vancouver. Pavin was joined on the stage by four young Thai refugees (Kritsada Aiken, Suphicha ‘Melin’ Chailom, Benjamaporn ‘Ploy’ Nivas, and Chris Arampibulkit). The topic was the relationship between King Vajiralongkorn and Thaksin Shiwawatra which drew a large number of questions from the participants.
